Radnor Forest

The Radnor Forest was once a royal hunting ground which wasn't a forest in the modern sense of being a heavily wooded area, but in the medieval sense of "forest" being an unenclosed area used for hunting deer.

The Forest is now managed by Natural Resources Wales. There are three, free car parks within the Radnor Forest Area. Warren Wood, near New Radnor, Fishpools, near Bleddfa and Nash Wood, near Presteigne.

The forest is open to all on foot, horseback and mountain bike. Offering numerous rights of way to follow and explore.

According to a legend, the local people built five churches around the Radnor Forest in order to contain the last dragon in Wales, who lays sleeping in the middle. All the churches are dedicated to St Michael, some people believe if any of the churches were to be destroyed, the dragon would awaken...

If you wanted to explore the Radnor Forest a little further afield, the OS grid refs are:

Fishpools car park SO 188 683
Nash Wood car park SO 314 635

THE FARM

Cwm cottage is a small holding, set in the Cascob valley in mid-Wales. Among other breeds we farm Texel's, a very laid back breed of sheep, who can mostly be found lazing under the hedges and trees in our fields!

We invite you to make like a Texel, sit back, relax and watch the world go by. Sit quite for a short while and you will soon spot an abundance of wonderful wildlife. You may even be lucky enough to see a hare or hear the cuckoo.

It is a working farm and during your stay you may even spot one of us going about our daily jobs.

"Lovely escape from day-to-day, peaceful, will be back"
